Counting words and characters
Limits are set in different units. Meta descriptions and SMS messages are measured in characters, essays and articles in words, and some platforms count an emoji or an accented letter as more than one character. The word counter reports words, characters, sentences, and reading time together; the character counter shows counts with and without spaces.
Languages written without spaces between words, such as Chinese and Japanese, have no reliable word count; count characters instead.
Cleaning lists
Pasted lists usually need the same few fixes: remove duplicate lines, trim stray spaces at the start and end of each line, remove empty lines, and sort. Do the trimming first — two lines that differ only by a trailing space are not duplicates until the space is gone.
Slugs, case, and publishing
A URL slug should be short, lowercase, and hyphenated, with accents and punctuation removed — the slug generator does all of that in one step, and the case converter switches between sentence, title, and code cases.
For writing that ends up on the web, Markdown is easier to write and HTML is what the page needs: Markdown to HTML and HTML to Markdown convert in both directions, and text to HTML escapes plain text safely so characters like < and & display rather than break the page.
