Find and Replace Online

Find and replace in any text with several rules at once, whole words, case matching, and regular expressions with capture groups, with a count for each rule.

Find and Replace Online: Rules run in order, each on the result of the one before, so you can chain clean-ups. Plain rules replace the text exactly as typed; regular expressions use JavaScript's syntax with Unicode support, and $1, $2 in the replacement insert captured groups. Whole words means the match is not part of a longer word, in any alphabet. Your rules are saved in this browser for next time. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Handy patterns

With Regular expression on: \s+ matches any run of spaces and line breaks; ^\s+|\s+$ trims each line when combined with the multi-line text; [0-9]+ matches numbers; (\w+)@(\w+) captures the two halves of a simple email address.

To clean hidden characters first, use the invisible character detector; to tidy spacing, remove extra spaces.

Chaining rules

Rules run top to bottom. To swap two words, use a placeholder: replace cat with ##, then dog with cat, then ## with dog; done in one step, the two would end up the same.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Add one or more find-and-replace rules; choose match case, whole words, or regular expression.
  3. Copy the result; each rule shows how many replacements it made.

Privacy & limitations

Frequently asked questions

How do I swap the order of a date?

Turn on Regular expression, find (\d+)-(\d+)-(\d+) and replace with $3/$2/$1: 2026-10-02 becomes 02/10/2026.

How do I delete something?

Leave Replace with empty: every match is removed.

Why does a rule say invalid pattern?

The regular expression has a syntax error, such as an unclosed bracket; untick Regular expression to search for the characters literally.
