Russian Keyboard: Type with Russian standard JCUKEN and the XKB YaVERTY phonetic variant
Type Russian messages, names and study notes using the standard Cyrillic positions, or switch to a phonetic layout if you know Latin QWERTY.
Russian Keyboard: Type with Russian standard JCUKEN and the XKB YaVERTY phonetic variant: The standard layout places the first six Cyrillic letters on the QWERTY positions. The phonetic option puts familiar sound pairs such as A and the Russian a on the same key. Both include the letters yo and the hard and soft signs. Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between standard and phonetic?
The standard JCUKEN layout matches common Russian keyboards. YaVERTY is a separate phonetic arrangement for people familiar with Latin QWERTY. Switching changes the on-screen and physical mappings together.
Where is the letter yo?
In the standard layout, use the Backquote position at the top left. Shift gives its capital form. The phonetic layout places it on Shift plus 3, with an extra character button as well.
Does this transliterate English words?
No. The phonetic option maps individual key positions to Cyrillic letters. It does not translate text or convert whole words automatically.
