Furigana Generator: Editable Japanese Kanji Readings

Paste Japanese text to add hiragana or katakana readings above kanji. Edit individual readings and export HTML ruby, bracket notation, Aozora Bunko notation or plain hiragana in your browser.

Furigana Generator: Editable Japanese Kanji Readings: Uses kuromoji 0.1.2 and its bundled IPADIC dictionary to analyse Japanese text. Kana segments align each word's reading with its kanji runs, so 食べる becomes 食(た)べる and 取り消す becomes 取(と)り消(け)す. Every recognised kanji word is eligible for annotation; there are no school-grade filters. Tokens without usable readings or reliable alignment remain unchanged. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Readings come from a dictionary-based morphological analyser. Names, rare words and context-dependent readings can be wrong, for example 今日 (きょう / こんにち) and 生 (なま / せい). Click any reading in the preview to edit it.

The dictionary loads on your first conversion. Your text stays in this browser.

Frequently asked questions

Are the readings always correct?

No. This is a dictionary-based morphological analyser. Names, rare words and context-dependent readings can be wrong, such as 今日 (きょう or こんにち) and 生 (なま or せい). Check the preview and click any annotated word to edit its reading.

What do the downloads contain?

HTML output downloads as a minimal standalone page with ruby markup and system fonts. Brackets, Aozora Bunko notation and plain hiragana download as UTF-8 text. The Copy button copies the selected output; for HTML this is the escaped ruby fragment.

Do edits survive changing the output format?

Yes. Preview edits feed all output formats and downloads. Changing reading style converts edited kana between hiragana and katakana. Converting again or changing the source text resets the annotations.

Why are some words left unchanged?

Unknown words, missing dictionary readings, numbers, Latin text and tokens whose kana cannot be aligned are preserved. Plain hiragana converts recognised kana and kanji readings, preserves punctuation and spacing, and always uses hiragana regardless of preview style.
