Formatted GFM Markdown Table
Pasting the data
Rows copied from Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers arrive tab-separated, and a tab in the first line switches the reader to tabs, so commas inside cells need no quoting. Otherwise the input is read as CSV, where a value containing a comma must be wrapped in double quotes. A pipe inside a cell is written as \| so it cannot end the cell early, and a line break inside a quoted cell becomes a space. The first row always becomes the header, which GitHub and most renderers require.
Aligning columns
Alignment lives in the separator row under the header: :--- for left, :---: for center, and ---: for right. The generator writes plain dashes, the default left alignment, so for a column of numbers change its separator to end in a colon and the digits line up on the right. The padding spaces between the pipes only tidy the raw text for people reading the source; they make no difference to the rendered table.
