Thumbnails
Every public video has thumbnails at several sizes. The largest, maxresdefault at 1280 × 720, only exists when the video was uploaded in HD or has a custom thumbnail; otherwise hqdefault at 480 × 360 is the best available. The thumbnail downloader shows every size that exists, and the thumbnail preview shows how a new thumbnail and title look in the home feed, sidebar, and on a phone before you upload.
Chapters
YouTube turns timestamps in a description into chapters only when the first one is 0:00, there are at least three, they run in order, and each chapter lasts at least ten seconds. The chapter checker tests a description against those rules before you publish, and the chapter generator drafts chapters from a transcript.
Transcripts and subtitle files
The transcript and subtitle tools read caption tracks that a video makes publicly available; they cannot create captions a video does not have. SRT is the most widely accepted subtitle format and VTT is the web standard; SRT to VTT and VTT to SRT convert between them.
If subtitles drift out of sync, shift them by a fixed amount. If viewers struggle to keep up, the reading speed checker flags cues with too many characters per second — common guidelines sit around 15 to 20.
