HTTP status deskSafe public URL check

Requests a public URL and follows up to eight server redirects.

Codes that need a second look

A 200 is not always a working page. A soft 404 is an error page, such as "Product not found", served with status 200, which search engines treat as missing anyway while it wastes crawling. A missing page should return 404, or 410 when it is gone for good.

403 and 429 often come from bot protection rather than the page itself: firewalls and CDNs block or rate-limit automated requests that a browser gets through. 503 with a Retry-After header is the right answer during planned maintenance, since crawlers then come back later instead of dropping the page.

Reading the response time

The time covers the whole exchange from the checker's server, including redirects, so a slow result can come from a long redirect chain as much as a slow page. Check the chain with the redirect checker. A single measurement also varies with caching: the first request after a quiet period may be slow while the server or CDN warms up, so repeat it before drawing conclusions.

How to use it

  1. Paste a public HTTP or HTTPS URL.
  2. Choose Check status.
  3. Review the final response and any redirect hops.

Privacy & limitations

The submitted URL is requested through TOEA’s API and is not stored. Private networks, nonstandard ports, oversized responses, and long redirect chains are blocked.
