Measure twice, buy once

For flooring and paint, the area is the starting point: split an awkward room into simple shapes in the square footage calculator, then add 5 to 10% for cutting waste. Wallpaper is counted in strips rather than area, because each strip runs the full height of the wall; the wallpaper calculator also rounds every strip up to whole pattern repeats.

Before building a staircase, the stair calculator checks every step against a comfortable stride and the US residential code limits; your local rules may differ.

Household money

Small regular costs add up: the subscription cost calculator shows what monthly payments come to in a year, and the electricity cost calculator prices an appliance from its wattage and hours of use. For shared costs, the split bill calculator divides a bill by what each person had, tax and tip included.
