Text to Speech
Have any text read aloud in your browser, choosing from the voices on your device, with the speed, the pitch, and the sentence being read highlighted as it goes.
Text to Speech: The page uses the speech synthesis built into your browser and operating system. It reads a sentence at a time and highlights it, which also keeps very long texts from stopping partway. Voices are grouped by language, with the one for the page's language first. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Voices come from your browser and operating system, so the list differs between devices. Voices marked online send the text to the browser maker's speech service; the others work on the device. Browsers cannot save the speech as an audio file.
Where the voices come from
Web pages cannot bring their own voices: they ask the browser, which offers the voices of the operating system plus, in some browsers, online voices of its own. That is why the same page lists different voices on Windows, a Mac, an iPhone, or an Android phone, and why a language can be missing on one device and present on another. Installing a voice in the system's language or accessibility settings adds it here after a reload.
Voices installed on the device work offline and keep the text on your computer. Online voices, marked in the list, often sound more natural, but the text is sent to the browser maker's service to be spoken, so prefer an installed voice for anything private.
Listening comfortably
Speed changes how fast the voice talks without changing its pitch; many people follow comfortably at up to one and a half times once they are used to a voice. Pitch only makes the voice higher or lower. Both apply from the next sentence, so you can adjust them while listening.
The text is read a sentence at a time with the current one highlighted, and any sentence can be clicked to start from there. To read a script yourself on camera instead, the teleprompter scrolls it for you and estimates how long it takes to say; the word counter gives its length.
How to use it
- Type or paste the text.
- Pick a voice and set the speed and pitch.
- Press Read aloud; click any sentence to jump to it, and pause or stop at any time.
Privacy & limitations
Voices installed on your device read the text without it leaving your computer. Voices marked online are provided by the browser maker, and the text is sent to their speech service to be spoken. Your text and settings are kept in this browser only.

Frequently asked questions
Can I download the speech as an MP3?
No. Browsers play synthesized speech straight to the speakers and give web pages no way to record it, so no download is offered here. To keep a recording, use your system's own screen or audio recorder while it plays.
Why are the voices different on my phone?
The voices come from the browser and the operating system, not from this site. Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS each install their own, and some browsers add online voices. More can usually be installed in the system's language or accessibility settings.
Which languages are supported?
Any language your device has a voice for. The voice list is grouped by language; if a language is missing, install a voice for it in your system settings and reload the page.
Why did it stop or skip?
Editing the text or changing the voice stops the reading so it does not continue from the wrong place. If a voice fails, the page says so; try a voice installed on the device, which does not depend on a connection.
