Formatting, validating, and repairing JSON

The JSON formatter indents a payload so it can be read; the validator says whether it parses and where it breaks; the JSON Schema validator checks that it has the shape you expect, not just valid syntax. When JSON is almost right — trailing commas, single quotes, a truncated end, as language models often produce — the JSON repair tool fixes the mechanical faults, and JSON diff compares two versions key by key rather than line by line.

CSV and spreadsheets

CSV looks simple and rarely is: delimiters vary (commas, semicolons in many European locales, tabs), text fields may contain the delimiter inside quotes, and Excel quietly drops leading zeros from codes and turns long numbers into scientific notation. The CSV viewer shows how a file actually parses, Excel to CSV and CSV to Excel move between the two, and CSV to JSON turns rows into records for code.

Encoding is not encryption

Base64, URL encoding, and HTML entities change how data is written so it survives a particular channel; anyone can reverse them, so they hide nothing. A hash is one-way and fixed-length, useful for checking that a file is unchanged — the file hash tool computes SHA-256 locally — but a plain fast hash is not a safe way to store passwords.

A JWT is readable by anyone: the JWT decoder shows its claims without any key. Only verifying the signature, as the JWT verifier does for HMAC tokens, proves it has not been altered.

Time, schedules, and identifiers

Unix timestamps are seconds since 1970 in UTC, but JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds, so a value with 13 digits is almost always milliseconds — the timestamp converter handles both. Cron schedules are five fields (minute, hour, day of month, month, day of week) and usually run in the server's time zone, often UTC; the cron explainer spells a schedule out in words and lists its next runs. For identifiers that must not collide, use a UUID rather than a counter or a timestamp.
