Sitemap Checker

Validate an XML or text sitemap, count entries, inspect last-modified coverage, and sample its URLs.

Sitemap Checker: TOEA supports standard XML urlsets, sitemap indexes, and plain-text URL sitemaps. It parses up to a bounded response size and shows a capped sample rather than flooding the page. Processed securely on demand.

Sitemap intakeSafe public URL check

Use a site URL for /sitemap.xml or paste a specific XML or text sitemap URL.

What belongs in a sitemap

List only the canonical, indexable version of each page that returns 200: no redirects, no URLs with noindex, no parameter duplicates; spot-check a few entries with the canonical checker. A sitemap full of URLs that search engines then find to be redirects or duplicates makes the whole file less trusted.

One file may hold at most 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed; larger sites split the list into several sitemaps and list those in a sitemap index. Every URL should normally be on the same host and protocol as the sitemap file itself.

lastmod, priority, and changefreq

Google uses lastmod when it is consistently accurate, so set it to the date the page's content really changed, not to the date the sitemap was generated. It ignores priority and changefreq. The lastmod count here shows whether dates are present at all.

Submit the sitemap in each search engine's webmaster tools to see how many listed URLs were actually indexed, which is the number this checker cannot give you.

How to use it

  1. Enter a website URL to check /sitemap.xml, or paste a direct sitemap URL.
  2. Choose Check sitemap.
  3. Review the format, URL count, warnings, and entry sample.

Privacy & limitations

The sitemap is fetched through TOEA’s public-only API and is not stored. This validates structure and entries, not whether every URL is indexed by a search engine.

Frequently asked questions

Can it inspect a sitemap index?

Yes. It identifies sitemapindex files and lists a sample of their child sitemap locations.

Does it crawl every URL?

No. It reads the sitemap document only and does not request every listed page.
