104 charactersWhen to use this instead of Markdown
Plain text is taken literally: asterisks, underscores, hash signs, and angle brackets appear exactly as typed, which suits product descriptions, poems, addresses, and user-submitted text, where Markdown would misread a stray *. Single line breaks become <br>, so addresses and verse keep their shape, and a blank line starts a new paragraph. For text written with formatting in mind, Markdown to HTML is the better route.
Spaces and special characters
HTML collapses runs of spaces and tabs into one, so indentation and aligned columns disappear when the output is displayed; wrap that kind of text in <pre> instead. Only &, <, >, and the two straight quote marks are escaped. Accented letters, curly quotes, and emoji stay as real characters, which display correctly as long as the page declares <meta charset="utf-8">, as nearly every modern page does.
How to use it
- Paste plain text.
- Review the generated paragraph markup.
- Copy or download the HTML.
Privacy & limitations
Text stays local. The output represents literal text and intentionally does not preserve pasted HTML as markup.
