Off by default. Download GEDCOM before closing to keep your work. Saved data is available to anyone using this browser profile.

People

Dates are GEDCOM text, for example 12 MAR 1950, ABT 1900 or BET 1900 AND 1905. Leave unknown details blank.

Families and relationships

Create one family per partnership. Any two people can be partners. Leave one or both parents absent when unknown. A child can belong to several families.

Drag to pan. Use the zoom buttons or focus the chart and use +, − and arrow keys. Dashed parent lines indicate adoption. Repeated relatives appear in each branch.

A tree starts with one person.

Add a name on the left, or open a GEDCOM file above.

Keep or share your tree

Save person and family edits before exporting. GEDCOM includes every record. PNG, PDF and print use the displayed generations, on white, without the current pan or zoom.

PDF uses an image of the chart, including CJK rendered by fonts on your device. Text is not searchable. Check names in the PNG before sharing; missing glyphs need a suitable local font. Large PNGs are scaled to fit browser limits. Print at 100% with browser headers and footers off.

GEDCOM 7.0

FamilySearch GEDCOM 7.0 specification: https://gedcom.io/specifications/FamilySearchGEDCOMv7.html . The parser retains hierarchical structures, honours leading-@ escapes and CONT line continuations, and exports UTF-8 GEDCOM 7.0 metadata.

This work comprises, is based on, or is derived from the FAMILYSEARCH GEDCOM™ Specification, © 1984–2026 Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved. GEDCOM 5.5.1

The GEDCOM Standard, release 5.5.1: https://gedcom.io/specifications/ged551.pdf . Import supports CONC and CONT, slash-delimited names, individual and family records, events, notes, family pointers and PEDI. ANSEL is detected rather than decoded; re-export as UTF-8 before importing.

Chart and export limits

Each chart has at most six generations per direction and 400 person boxes. A shared ancestor can have multiple boxes. Page tiling uses 24-point margins and 0.75 PDF points per chart unit; adjacent tiles have no overlap. PNG export is bounded to 8,192 pixels on the longest edge and 16 million pixels overall. PDF tiles are rendered separately to limit memory use.

How to use it

  1. Add a person or open a GEDCOM file, then review its import summary and warnings.
  2. Save people and family links, including partners, children and adoptive relationships.
  3. Choose a starting person, chart view and up to six generations, then download or print.

Privacy & limitations

Everything stays in your browser. No file, name or note is uploaded. Remember on this device is off by default; enabling it saves GEDCOM in localStorage. Clear saved data removes that copy. Download GEDCOM to keep a portable copy.

Frequently asked questions

Which GEDCOM encodings can I import?

UTF-8 with or without a byte-order mark, and UTF-16 little or big endian. ANSEL is detected and rejected with a request to re-export as UTF-8. GEDCOM 7 exports are UTF-8.

Will an imported file round-trip unchanged?

People, family relationships and supported fields round-trip semantically. Unknown and unedited structures are retained where feasible and reported with source line numbers. Whitespace in values is retained; line endings, continuation encoding, version and character-set metadata are normalised. Legacy shared notes are converted to SNOTE. Some old or custom structures still need another application for strict GEDCOM 7 validation.

Can I show adoption and different family structures?

Yes. Create a family for each partnership and link children to the appropriate family or families. Partners are independent of sex. Leave unknown parents absent, and choose Adopted, Birth, Foster or another parentage value for each child. Adoption lines are dashed.

Does PDF support Chinese, Japanese and Korean names?

PDF embeds a raster image rendered using fonts on your device, as does PNG. No remote font is loaded. Check the PNG for missing glyphs before sharing. PDF text is not searchable. Tiling keeps boxes at full size; a fitted page may have very small text.

Why does the chart repeat a relative or stop a branch?

A relative reached through different branches appears in each branch so that generations stay readable. Circular relationships stop at a repeated person. Views have a six-generation and 400-box limit; GEDCOM export still contains the entire dataset.
