Travel Budget Calculator

Add up the cost of a trip, from flights and rooms to food, local transport, and activities, with a contingency, and see the total per person and per day.

Travel Budget Calculator: Rooms are counted per night, and a trip has one night fewer than it has days. Food is per person per day, local transport per day for the group, and flights, activities, and extras per person. A contingency percentage is added on top of the sum. A worked example

Two people for 7 days with one room at 120 a night: 6 nights come to 720, food at 40 each a day to 560, local transport at 15 a day to 105, return flights at 350 each to 700, activities at 100 each to 200, and extras at 50 each to 100. That is 2,385, or 2,623.50 with 10% contingency: 1,311.75 each.

On the trip

Divide what is left by the days remaining to see your daily allowance as you go. When friends share costs unevenly, the bill splitter works out who owes whom.

Before leaving, the packing list helps you avoid buying what you forgot at airport prices.

How to use it

  1. Enter the days, travellers, and rooms.
  2. Fill in the prices you expect, all in one currency.
  3. Read the total, the cost per person and per day, and download the breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

How much contingency should I add?

Around 10% covers most surprises, such as a taxi in the rain or a price that rose; add more for long trips or places you do not know.

Can I mix currencies?

No: enter every price in the same currency; convert them first with the currency converter.

Why one night fewer than days?

A trip from Monday to Sunday is seven days but six nights, which is what hotels charge for.
