Plug Types by Country: Check Your Travel Adapter
Choose where you are travelling from and to, compare plug and socket types, and check voltage and frequency differences. Search 227 sourced countries and territories by name, code or plug type.
Plug Types by Country: Check Your Travel Adapter: Compares country plug-type lists using conservative directional fit rules, including C Europlugs and conditional E/F compatibility. Voltage guidance compares 100–127 V with 220–240 V and flags mixed or unusual supplies. This is a portable-appliance reference; dedicated high-power and industrial circuits are outside its scope. Plug adapter
Yes. The listed plug types do not fit the destination sockets.
Voltage converter
Needed for a single-voltage appliance that does not accept the destination voltage.
Many chargers accept 100–240 V and 50/60 Hz. Check the input label. A plug adapter does not change voltage or frequency. A voltage converter must suit the appliance’s power and load type.
The listed frequencies differ. Check the label: motors and clock-based appliances may require a particular frequency.
A fits B sockets. The slim, two-pin C Europlug fits E, F, J and K sockets, and 10 A L sockets; it does not fit a dedicated 16 A L socket. Modern CEE 7/7 E/F hybrid plugs fit E and F sockets, but older E-only or F-only plugs may not. Never remove an earth pin or force a plug.
Country lists focus on sockets in common use, including regional types. Rare or historical-only types are omitted. A listed type is not a promise that every socket is available. C can describe Europlug use without dedicated C sockets. Match the actual plug, socket variant, earthing and current rating; universal sockets are not assumed compatible.

Physical fit
A fits B sockets. Slim C Europlugs fit E, F, J and K sockets, and 10 A L sockets. Dedicated 16 A L sockets need a different fit. A shared letter does not guarantee the correct current rating, earthing or socket variant. Never force a plug or remove an earth pin.
Supply and sources
Countries may have several regional types, voltages or frequencies. Match the actual supply to the appliance label. An adapter does not change frequency, and some motors and clocks need a particular frequency. Country data: Mains electricity by country (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_electricity_by_country). Cross-check: WorldStandards country table (https://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plug-voltage-by-country/). Wikipedia’s supply values are retained where the sources disagree, with a country note in the results and table.
How to use it
- Choose your home country and destination.
- Read the plug, voltage and frequency comparison.
- Check the input label on your appliance and the socket at your accommodation.

Frequently asked questions
Does a plug adapter change voltage?
No. Many chargers accept 100–240 V and 50/60 Hz, but check the input label. A single-voltage appliance may need a converter suited to its power and load type.
Will a German plug work in France?
A C Europlug fits an E socket. A modern CEE 7/7 E/F hybrid plug also fits, but an older F-only plug may not. Check the actual plug before relying on the country list.
Where does the data come from?
Wikipedia’s Mains electricity by country is the primary reference, checked against WorldStandards on 4 October 2026. The former IEC World Plugs guide is retired. Rare or historical-only types are omitted; country notes identify supply disagreements. Countries and territories without a row in that table are left out rather than guessed.
