The starting split puts most of the money where it usually goes, into the venue and the food, and keeps 5% back for surprises. It is a starting point, not a survey: change any line, and use Split the total to start again. Venue and catering grow with the guest list, so the number of guests moves the budget more than anything else. Your figures are saved only in this browser.
The starting split
Split the total gives 45% to the venue and catering, 12% to photography and video, 9% each to attire and to flowers and decoration, 7% to music, 4% to the rings, 2% each to stationery, transport, the cake, and favours, 1% to the officiant and fees, and keeps 5% in reserve.
On a budget of 25,000 with 100 guests, that is 11,250 for the venue and food: 112.50 a guest.
Making the budget work
Fix the guest list early, because it drives the largest costs; then book the venue, which sets the date. Agree in writing what each price includes, such as service charges, tax, and overtime.
To keep the household budget on track alongside the wedding, use the budget planner; to plan the food for a smaller celebration, the party food calculator.
How to use it
- Enter the total budget and the number of guests.
- Use the suggested split, or type your own amounts for each line.
- See what is left to assign, the cost per guest, and download the list.
