EV Range Calculator: Battery, Weather and Added Charge
Estimate full-charge range and range added between two charge levels. Adjust the scenario for speed, cold weather and cabin heating or cooling.
EV Range Calculator: Battery, Weather and Added Charge: Divides usable battery energy by consumption, then multiplies the remaining range by each adjustment factor. Added range follows the change in charge percentage. There is no vehicle database or automatic weather lookup. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Changing currency does not convert prices. Unit changes preserve the same physical quantities.
The 12% temperature default is the DOE-reported range reduction at 20°F (−6.7°C) versus 75°F (23.9°C), without cabin heating, from a 2019 AAA study. It is an editable example, not a prediction for every car. HVAC starts at zero so heating is not counted twice. DOE: Fuel Economy in Cold Weather
Each factor reduces the remaining range: range = battery ÷ consumption × speed factor × temperature factor × HVAC factor. These are scenario adjustments, not a vehicle model. Set a factor to zero if your measured consumption already includes it. Use usable battery capacity, allow a reserve and consult your car for trip planning. Currency has no effect on range.

Range arithmetic
Base range = usable battery energy ÷ energy per distance. Adjusted range multiplies base range by (1 − speed reduction), (1 − temperature reduction) and (1 − HVAC reduction). Charge-added range = adjusted range × (ending charge − starting charge) ÷ 100. All factors are user-entered assumptions.
How to use it
- Enter usable battery capacity and battery-side consumption.
- Edit the speed, temperature and HVAC percentage reductions.
- Choose starting and ending charge levels to see range added and range at each level.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the 12% cold-weather default come from?
DOE reports that range was about 12% lower at 20°F than at 75°F without cabin heating, based on a 2019 AAA study. This is an editable scenario, not a universal loss.
Will temperature and HVAC be counted twice?
The temperature default excludes cabin heating and HVAC starts at zero. If your measured consumption already includes a condition, leave its extra reduction at zero.
Is this guaranteed driving range?
No. Speed, terrain, weather, battery condition and driving behaviour interact. Use usable capacity, keep a reserve and refer to the car's trip estimate. Currency selection does not change range.
