What TOML cannot express
TOML has no null, so a key whose value is null is left out of the output, and null entries are dropped from arrays. Most programs treat a missing key as unset, but check any reader that tells an absent key from an empty one. The top level must be an object, because a TOML file is always a table. Dates stay quoted strings rather than becoming TOML's native date-time values; remove the quotes from a value like 2024-05-01T09:00:00Z if the reader expects a real date.
Nesting and key names
Nested objects become table sections at any depth, named by their path: server.tls is written under a [server.tls] header. An array whose items are all objects becomes a series of [[name]] sections, one per item. Objects inside a mixed array are written as inline tables, { a = 1 }. Keys made of letters, digits, _, and - are written bare; any other key, such as one with a space or a dot, is quoted, as in "my key" = 1.
The TOML-to-JSON direction reads single-line values, [table] and dotted [a.b] headers, and [[array]] sections. Multi-line strings and inline tables are not read, so round trips work best for configuration-shaped files.
How to use it
- Paste your JSON or TOML string.
- Select conversion direction (JSON → TOML or TOML → JSON).
- Copy the output.
Privacy & limitations
Configuration data stays strictly in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
Which TOML structures are supported?
JSON to TOML writes key-values, arrays, nested tables at any depth as [a.b] sections, and arrays of objects as [[table]] sections. TOML to JSON reads single-line key-values, [table] and dotted [a.b] headers, and [[table]] sections; inline tables and multi-line strings are not read.
