File Hash Checker
Calculate a file’s SHA-256 digest locally for integrity comparison.
File Hash Checker: TOEA reads the file into browser memory and passes its bytes to the Web Crypto SHA-256 implementation. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Checking a download
Compare the digest with the SHA-256 value the publisher lists, and compare all 64 characters; letter case does not matter. The same check runs on the command line with sha256sum file on Linux, shasum -a 256 file on macOS, and Get-FileHash file in PowerShell. If the publisher gives an MD5, SHA-1, or SHA-512 value instead, this SHA-256 digest will never match it, however intact the file is; use the command-line tool with the matching algorithm.
What a match proves
A match shows the file is the same as the one the checksum was made from. If an attacker replaced both the download and the checksum on the same page, they match each other. A checksum from a separate channel, or a signed release checked with GPG or the platform's code-signing tools, is the stronger guarantee. For files over 50 MB, use the commands above.
How to use it
- Choose a file up to 50 MB.
- Wait for the local digest.
- Copy and compare the lowercase SHA-256 value.
Privacy & limitations
The file stays on your device. Matching hashes strongly support byte-for-byte equality but do not prove a source is trustworthy.

Frequently asked questions
Why does any edit change the hash?
Cryptographic digests are designed so even a one-byte change produces a very different result.
Can this scan for malware?
No. It calculates a digest only.
