Number Format Converter: Decimal Comma, Point, and Thousands Separators
Convert a column of numbers between the separator styles used around the world, such as 1,234,567.89, 1.234.567,89, 1 234 567,89, 1’234’567.89, and 12,34,567.89, with the separators of each number worked out automatically and a choice of decimal places.
Number Format Converter: Decimal Comma, Point, and Thousands Separators: Each number's separators are worked out from its shape: with both a dot and a comma, the last is the decimal separator, and a separator that appears twice groups thousands. So 1.234.567,89 and 1,234,567.89 are both read as 1234567.89 and written in the chosen style. Only a single separator followed by three digits, such as 1,500, is ambiguous. The separators are worked out from each number: with both a dot and a comma, the last one is the decimal separator; a separator used more than once groups thousands. Only a single separator followed by exactly three digits, such as 1,500, is ambiguous, so choose how to read it. The output uses the chosen style, from 1,234,567.89 in the US and UK to 1.234.567,89 in much of Europe and 12,34,567.89 in India.
Ambiguous numbers
1,500 is one and a half thousand in the US but one and a half in Germany. If a column mixes styles, check numbers with exactly three digits after a single separator.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my spreadsheet treat numbers as text?
When a file written with decimal commas is opened with decimal-point settings, or the other way round, the cells become text; converting the column first fixes it.
Which countries use a decimal comma?
Most of continental Europe and South America, and others; the UK, US, China, Japan, and India use a decimal point.
What is the Indian format?
Indian numbering groups the first three digits, then pairs: 12,34,567.89 is 12 lakh, 34 thousand, and 567.89.
