Preparing a CSV that will parse cleanly

Most conversion problems start in the spreadsheet. Excel in many European locales saves with semicolons rather than commas, so every row lands in a single field; export again with commas, or save as tab-separated text. Headers become the property names, so make them unique and short. The CSV viewer shows how a file splits into columns before you convert, and Excel to CSV exports a sheet directly.

Why every value stays a string

Guessing types breaks data that looks numeric but is not: postcodes like 02134, phone numbers, product codes, and long IDs lose leading zeros or digits when read as numbers. Convert the fields you know are numeric in your own code, where the rules are explicit. To check or tidy the output, open it in the JSON formatter.

How to use it

  1. Paste delimited text with a header row.
  2. Select comma or tab.
  3. Convert and download formatted JSON.

Privacy & limitations

Data remains in your browser. Values are kept as strings so identifiers and leading zeroes are not corrupted.
