Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Encode Unicode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to readable UTF-8 text.

Base64 Encoder & Decoder: TOEA converts text through UTF-8 bytes before Base64 encoding and reverses that process when decoding, so international characters are handled correctly. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

What Base64 is for

Base64 carries binary data through systems built for text: email attachments, data URLs in HTML and CSS, binary fields inside JSON, and the credentials in an HTTP Basic Authorization header. It turns every three bytes into four characters, so the result is about a third larger than the original.

For pictures, image to Base64 produces a ready-made data URL and Base64 to image turns one back into a file.

Standard and URL-safe Base64

Standard Base64 uses + and / and pads the end with =. The URL-safe variant, used by JWTs and many web APIs, uses - and _ and usually drops the padding. If a value refuses to decode, it is often URL-safe: replace - with + and _ with /, then add = until the length is a multiple of four.

How to use it

  1. Choose Encode or Decode.
  2. Paste your text or Base64 value.
  3. Run the conversion, then copy or download the result.

Privacy & limitations

The conversion runs locally. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption; anyone with the value can decode it.
