Arrays are compared by position
Item 0 is compared with item 0, item 1 with item 1, and so on. If one list has a record inserted at the start, every later item shifts and shows as modified, even though nothing else changed. Before comparing lists whose order is not meaningful, such as users or products, sort both by the same key, for example by id, so each record lines up with its counterpart.
What counts as a change
The comparison works on parsed values, so indentation, whitespace, and key order never show up, and 1.0 equals 1. A type change does: 42 against "42", or null against a missing key. When an API response differs only in formatting, this is the tool; to see changes in layout or comments, compare the text in the diff checker.
Paths are written with dots and brackets, such as items[2].price, so a key that itself contains a dot reads ambiguously.
