What is removed and what to keep

Removing Inkscape and Sodipodi data also removes layer names and grouping hints, so a cleaned file reopened in the editor shows plain groups instead of layers. The <metadata> block goes too, including any license or author details stored in it. Keep the original as the editable master and treat the cleaned copy as the one you publish.

Whitespace between tags is removed as well. In SVG text built from several <tspan> elements, a space between them disappears, so check any text before publishing.

Going further than cleaning

Cleaning does not touch the drawing itself: path coordinates keep all their decimal places, transforms are not applied, and shapes are not merged. A command-line optimizer such as SVGO does those and often saves more on complex artwork. To see what a path actually contains, open it in the SVG path visualizer; for a bitmap copy of the result, use SVG to PNG.

How to use it

  1. Paste SVG markup or choose an SVG file.
  2. Review the cleaned markup, live preview, and file size savings.
  3. Copy or download the optimized SVG.

Privacy & limitations

All cleaning and minification happens locally in your browser. Your design files are never uploaded to any server.

Frequently asked questions

Will cleaning break my SVG illustration?

No. The optimizer removes non-rendering metadata and redundant formatting while keeping visual elements intact.

How much smaller will the SVG get?

Files exported from graphic design tools like Illustrator or Inkscape often shrink by 20% to 60%.
