VTT to SRT Converter

Turn WebVTT captions into SubRip .srt files that editors and players accept.

VTT to SRT Converter: TOEA strips the WebVTT header, comments, and cue settings, renumbers every cue from one, and writes SubRip timings with the comma separator that format expects. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

VTT to SRT before and after

WebVTT has a WEBVTT header and uses a full stop before milliseconds. SRT has numbered cues and a comma before milliseconds. This example keeps the cue text and timing, drops the named cue and position settings, and writes a sequence number instead.

VTT input:

WEBVTT

intro
00:00:01.250 --> 00:00:03.500 line:10% align:start
Hello there.

SRT output:

1
00:00:01,250 --> 00:00:03,500
Hello there.

What does not carry across

Cue identifiers, line positions, alignment settings, NOTE comments and STYLE blocks are discarded. SRT does not express WebVTT layout and stylesheet rules. Check subtitles that were positioned away from on-screen text after conversion.

Text within each cue is copied as written, including inline tags. A tag copied into SRT may render differently or appear as text in a player that does not support it. Use Subtitle Cleaner for plain text; rolling automatic captions may also need repeated lines edited by hand.

How to use it

  1. Choose a .vtt file or paste its text.
  2. Check the cue count and duration.
  3. Copy or download the .srt file.

Privacy & limitations

The file is read and rewritten in your browser and never uploaded. Cue positioning settings are discarded because SubRip has nowhere to put them.

Frequently asked questions

How do VTT and SRT timestamps differ?

WebVTT uses a full stop before milliseconds, such as 00:00:01.250. SRT uses a comma: 00:00:01,250. This converter expands short VTT timestamps, removes the WEBVTT header and numbers the SRT cues from one.

What happens to cue settings and styling?

Positioning and alignment settings such as line:10% and align:start are dropped, along with NOTE and STYLE blocks and named cue identifiers. Text inside cues, including inline tags, is copied as written; SRT players may not interpret those tags. Use Subtitle Cleaner if you need plain text.

Are the timings and line breaks kept?

Yes. Valid cue start and end times and text line breaks are kept. The output changes the timestamp notation and cue numbering, not when each subtitle appears.
