How YouTube uses hashtags
A hashtag in a title or description becomes a link to a page of videos using the same tag. If the title has none, YouTube can show the first three hashtags from the description alongside the title. A hashtag cannot contain spaces, and YouTube ignores every hashtag on a video that has more than 60, so a long block of tags is worse than a few relevant ones.
Hashtags and tags are different
Tags are the separate keywords entered in YouTube Studio, limited to 500 characters in total and not visible on the watch page. YouTube describes them as playing a minimal role in discovery, mainly helping with commonly misspelled names. Hashtags are visible, clickable, and part of the text people read.
Hashtags that have nothing to do with the video count as misleading metadata under YouTube's policies, so copying another channel's set is only useful where the topic genuinely matches. To read the set in context, open the full text with the description extractor.
How to use it
- Paste a public video URL.
- Extract the hashtags.
- Copy or download one tag per line.
Privacy & limitations
The URL is processed by TOEA’s API and YouTube without storage. The tool reports visible text signals, not hidden ranking data.

Frequently asked questions
Are video tags included?
Hashtags come from the title and description. YouTube keyword metadata is counted separately but not converted into hashtags.
Why are duplicates missing?
Each hashtag is returned once to make the output easier to reuse.
