Subtitle to Text
Strip timings and markup from an SRT or VTT file to get a clean readable transcript.
Subtitle to Text: TOEA keeps only the cue text, removing sequence numbers, timings, and markup tags, and can join hard-wrapped lines back into continuous sentences. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

What the text is useful for
A plain transcript is easier to search, quote, translate, or feed into a summary than a file broken into cues, and word counts become meaningful: paste the result into the word counter to compare a script's length with its running time.
Subtitle writers mark a change of speaker within one cue with a leading dash on each line. With line joining on, those dialogues merge into one line with dashes in the middle, so turn joining off for dialogue-heavy files and the exchanges stay readable.
Tidying captions into prose
Subtitles are condensed speech: professional ones drop hesitations and shorten long sentences, and automatic ones often lack punctuation and capitals. The text therefore reads as a close record of what was said rather than a finished article. To keep a pointer back to each moment in the video, use subtitle to timestamped text instead.
How to use it
- Choose a subtitle file or paste its text.
- Decide whether to join wrapped lines.
- Copy or download the transcript.
Privacy & limitations
The file is read and rewritten in your browser and never uploaded. The output is plain text with no timing information at all.

Frequently asked questions
Why join wrapped lines?
A line break inside a cue is a display decision about screen width, not a sentence break. Joining them gives prose that reads properly.
Are speaker labels kept?
Yes, if they are written as ordinary text. Labels expressed as WebVTT voice tags are removed with the rest of the markup.
Can I keep the timings?
Not here. Use the timing shifter if you want to adjust timings while keeping the subtitle format.
Does it work with auto-generated captions?
Yes, though auto-generated files often repeat words across overlapping cues, so expect to tidy the result.
