ASS to SRT Converter

Convert Advanced SubStation Alpha subtitles to plain SubRip that any player accepts.

ASS to SRT Converter: TOEA reads the Events section, taking the column order from the file's own Format line, strips the styling override blocks, and writes plain SubRip cues. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

How an ASS file is organised

An .ass file has a [Script Info] section, a [V4+ Styles] section that defines fonts, colours, and positions, and an [Events] section with the lines. Only Dialogue: lines are converted; Comment: lines, which editors such as Aegisub use for notes and disabled lines, are left out. ASS times have hundredths of a second, as in 0:01:02.50, and are written as SRT milliseconds, 00:01:02,500, so the timing does not change.

Signs, karaoke, and italics

Fan-made and anime subtitles often hold typesetting as well as dialogue: translated signs, captions placed over on-screen text, and karaoke lines for songs. In SRT all of them become ordinary lines at the bottom of the screen, sometimes several at once. Delete the sign and song lines, usually recognisable by their style name, from the ASS file before converting if you want only dialogue.

Override blocks such as {\i1} are removed rather than translated, so italics are lost too. Tidy the result with the subtitle cleaner and check it with the reading speed checker.

How to use it

  1. Choose an .ass or .ssa file, or paste its text.
  2. Check the cue count.
  3. Copy or download the .srt file.

Privacy & limitations

The file is read and rewritten in your browser and never uploaded. Styling, positioning, and karaoke timing have no SubRip equivalent and are removed.

Frequently asked questions

What is lost in the conversion?

Fonts, colours, positioning, and effects. SubRip carries text and timing only, so styled subtitles become plain ones.

Why read the Format line?

The column order in an ASS Events section varies between files. Reading it by name rather than position is what keeps the timings correct.

Are line breaks kept?

Yes. The \N marker ASS uses becomes a real line break.

Does it handle .ssa as well?

Yes. The older SubStation Alpha format uses the same Events structure.
