Leave builds up evenly through the leave year: the yearly entitlement × the share of the year worked so far, counted in days from the start of the leave year, or from your start date if you joined during it. The rules on rounding, carrying over, and paying out unused leave come from your contract and local law, which this calculator does not apply; check with your employer.

Leaving a job

When you leave, unused accrued leave is often paid out, and leave taken beyond what you had accrued may be deducted from the final pay; check your contract.

Frequently asked questions

Does it follow the law in my country?

No: it applies the even accrual you enter. Minimum entitlements, rounding, carry-over limits, and payout of unused leave depend on local law and your contract.

Why can I take leave before I have earned it?

Many employers let staff take the full year's leave in advance; this calculator shows what has accrued, which matters if you leave the job.

What about part-time work?

Enter your pro-rata entitlement, for example 3 days a week out of 5 gives 60% of the full-time days.
