Checking an itemised payment total
For currency with two decimal places, line amount = quantity × unit price, rounded to cents. Subtotal S is the sum of those line amounts. Discount D is capped at S. Each tax is rounded from (S − D) × rate/100, and total = S − D + sum of taxes. Tax rates come from your entries, not from the selected currency. Worked example: two repair parts at 15.00 give 30.00, plus one service at 20.00 gives subtotal 50.00. A fixed discount of 5.00 leaves 45.00. An illustrative 10% tax line adds 4.50, producing a receipt total of 49.50. Enter quantity 2, price 15, then quantity 1, price 20, an amount discount of 5 and tax rate 10 to reproduce it.
Linking the receipt to real evidence
Use a consistent receipt reference and an accurate payment method so the document can be matched to a transaction. The IRS recordkeeping overview (https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/recordkeeping) explains the role of records in a business. Requirements depend on your situation; this form does not decide which tax fields or retention period applies.
A sales receipt itemises goods or services; a payment receipt can acknowledge a specific payment with a clear description. Avoid including unnecessary card or bank details in the notes. Read the finished preview for the transaction date, customer spelling and currency before saving a copy for your own records.
A readable receipt for your records
Before printing, check that quantities describe the actual payment and the reference matches your records. Use the selected currency consistently across every line; changing the currency changes formatting, not the value of the prices. For a cash receipt, name cash as the payment method instead of leaving the method ambiguous. Keep the finished copy with the evidence used to prepare it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this receipt for a deposit or partial payment?
Choose Payment receipt and describe the payment actually received. This form does not track an outstanding balance or subtract earlier instalments. If you enter the full order value, the receipt total will show that value rather than automatically calculate the deposit.
Why are two tax lines added rather than compounded?
Each entered rate applies independently to the same subtotal after discount. A 5% line and an 8% line therefore do not charge tax on each other. Use this layout only when that calculation matches your transaction; the rates in the example are illustrative.
Can a receipt replace my bank or card evidence?
Keep the underlying payment evidence and any original invoice with your records. The generated receipt is a document you prepare from your entries. It does not verify settlement, query a bank account or certify that the customer paid.
