When Do the Clocks Change? Daylight Saving Time
See when the clocks next change where you are, whether they go forward or back, and what time it happens, for any place in the world, with the dates for the US, the UK and Europe, Australia, and more.
When Do the Clocks Change? Daylight Saving Time: The page reads your browser's time zone database, the same one your phone and computer use to change their clocks, and finds the exact minute each place's offset from UTC changes in the next two years. Places that no longer change their clocks are shown as such. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Getting through the change
The spring change costs an hour of sleep, and many people feel it for a few days. Going to bed 15 to 20 minutes earlier on each of the few nights before helps, as does getting daylight early the next morning. The autumn change is gentler, but young children and pets often wake at the old time for a while.
Devices that set their own time change by themselves overnight. Check anything set by hand, and anything scheduled across the change: a meeting with people in another country moves by an hour for the week or so when one country has changed and the other has not. The time zone converter shows the times for a chosen date, taking the change into account.
The gaps when only one side has changed
Europe and North America change on different weekends, so for a few weeks each spring and autumn the gap between them is an hour shorter than usual: New York is four hours behind London instead of five. Calls, flights, and broadcasts timed across the Atlantic shift during those weeks. The table on this page lists each place's next change, so you can see which weeks are affected; to count down to the change itself, use the countdown.
How to use it
- Your own place is chosen for you; pick another from the list or the table if you like.
- Read the date and time of the next change, and whether you lose or gain an hour.
- Count down to it, or check the table for other countries.

Frequently asked questions
When do the clocks change in the US and Europe?
In the United States, clocks go forward at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and back at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. In the European Union and the UK, they change at 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October, so the whole of Europe changes at the same instant.
Do I lose or gain an hour?
In spring the clocks go forward, so that night is an hour shorter and you lose an hour of sleep. In autumn they go back and you gain one. The saying "spring forward, fall back" is the usual way to remember it.
Why are the dates different in Australia and South America?
Their summer falls in our winter, so daylight saving time starts in September or October and ends in April. Some places, including Queensland in Australia and most of Arizona in the US, do not change their clocks at all.
Will my phone change automatically?
Yes, if it sets the time automatically from the network, which is the default. Clocks that are set by hand, such as some ovens, cars, and wall clocks, need changing yourself.
