Nonogram Maker
Draw a picture or threshold an image into a 5×5 to 30×30 nonogram, check uniqueness, play it and print the puzzle with its solution.
Nonogram Maker: Draw a picture on a grid, or turn an uploaded image into one, and get a nonogram (picross) puzzle with its number clues. The tool checks that the puzzle has exactly one solution, lets you play it, and prints the puzzle with the answer on a second page. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Click or drag across cells to draw. Each clue counts a consecutive run of filled cells. Image conversion stretches the image to the selected grid; adjust the threshold to change the detail.

Clues and solutions
A nonogram is a grid puzzle: the numbers beside each row and column give, in order, the lengths of its runs of filled cells. Solving clues is hard in general, and puzzles tend to be hardest when about half of the cells are filled, as Foote and Krizanc showed in 2025: https://arxiv.org/abs/2507.07283
Uniqueness and sharing
A unique puzzle has exactly one completed grid that satisfies all clues. Multiple solutions means at least two were found. A drawn picture always supplies one solution, but its clues need not identify that picture uniquely. Print only after checking the result.
How to use it
- Choose grid dimensions and draw cells, or select an image and adjust the threshold.
- Check whether the clues have a unique solution.
- Play using the clues or print the puzzle followed by its solution page.

Frequently asked questions
What do the numbers mean?
Each number is a consecutive run of filled cells, in order. Separate adjacent runs by at least one empty cell. Zero means the line is empty.
Does every picture make a unique puzzle?
No. Different pictures can share the same clues. Check uniqueness before sharing; a search-limit result is not a uniqueness claim.
What happens to my image?
It is decoded locally, stretched to the selected grid and converted by brightness threshold. Nothing is uploaded. Printing places the solution on a second page.
