Pixel Circle Generator: Circles and Ellipses in Blocks

Draw a circle or ellipse on a grid of blocks for building in Minecraft or other block games, or for pixel art: choose the width and height, a thin or thick outline or a filled shape, see the centre marked, and read how many blocks go in each row.

Pixel Circle Generator: Circles and Ellipses in Blocks: A block is part of the shape when its centre lies inside the ellipse; the thin outline keeps the blocks that touch the outside on a side, and the thick one also those touching it at a corner, so the walls have no gaps. A 5-block circle is three blocks across the top, then five, five, five, and three; its outline uses 12 blocks. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Rows are listed from the top to the middle; the bottom half mirrors the top. Each row shows the runs of blocks from left to right, so 3 + 3 means three blocks, a gap, and three more. A block is filled when its centre falls inside the ellipse.

Reading the row counts

Rows are listed from the top down to the middle. A row like 3 + 3 means three blocks, a gap, and three more; the bottom half repeats the top in reverse.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use an odd or even size?

Odd sizes have a single centre block, which makes it easy to line the circle up with a point; even sizes are centred on the corner between four blocks.

What is the difference between thin and thick outlines?

A thin outline can have blocks touching only at corners, which mobs and water can slip through in games; the thick outline closes those gaps.

How do I build a sphere?

Build it layer by layer: each layer is a circle whose width follows the sphere's curve, wider in the middle and narrower towards the top and bottom.
