Discord Emoji Maker

Turn any picture into a Discord custom emoji: square it, add a margin or outline, and download a 128 × 128 PNG under the 256 KB limit, or a 320 × 320 sticker.

Discord Emoji Maker: TOEA draws your picture into a 128 × 128 square (or 320 × 320 for a sticker) in your browser, encodes it as PNG, WebP, or JPG, and checks the result against Discord's size limit. If a PNG is too heavy it reduces the colour palette until it fits, and it tells you when a file still cannot. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, or SVG · a transparent PNG gives the cleanest result

Background in the way? Cut it out first with Remove background, then bring the transparent PNG back here.

Discord emoji · 128 × 128
  • 128 × 128 pixels is the recommended size; larger squares are scaled down by Discord.
  • PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF, under 256 KB.
  • Names are at least two characters: letters, numbers, and underscores.

Designing for 22 pixels

Discord recommends 128 × 128 pixels for a custom emoji, but a message shows it at about 22 pixels, and at 48 only when the message is nothing but emoji. Most of what makes a picture good at full size disappears. A face, a single object, or a bold symbol cropped to the edges survives; a group photo, a landscape, or a word does not.

Crop tight with Fill and the zoom slider, keep the margin at zero, and look at the dark preview: most people use Discord's dark theme, and a dark outline on dark artwork vanishes. A light outline of one or two pixels fixes that.

File limits and formats

Emoji must be under 256 KB. A 128-pixel PNG is almost always far below that, so the limit only matters for large uploads, which Discord scales down anyway. JPG is fine for a photo but cannot be transparent, so the square shows as a box on every theme; keep PNG or WebP for anything cut out.

Static server stickers are a different item: exactly 320 × 320 pixels, PNG, under 512 KB, uploaded under Stickers rather than Emoji. Choose the sticker preset for that size. For an app or website icon instead, use the favicon converter.

How to use it

  1. Choose an image; a transparent PNG gives the cleanest edges.
  2. Fit or fill the square, then adjust zoom, position, margin, and outline while the preview shows it on light and dark themes.
  3. Download the file and upload it in Server Settings › Emoji, or Stickers for the sticker size.

Privacy & limitations

The image is processed on your device and never uploaded. Nothing is sent to Discord either; you upload the file yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a Discord emoji be?

128 × 128 pixels is the size Discord recommends, and the file must be under 256 KB. Discord accepts larger square images and scales them down, but a 128-pixel file is exactly what it stores, so you see the result before anyone else does.

Why is my emoji blurry in chat?

Emoji appear in messages at roughly 22 pixels and larger only when a message is emoji alone, so fine detail and thin text vanish. Crop tighter with Fill and zoom, drop the margin, or add an outline so the shape reads at small sizes.

Can I make an animated emoji?

Not here: a GIF is read as its first frame and saved as a still image. Animated emoji are uploaded as GIFs, and using them in chat needs Discord Nitro.

How do I remove the background?

Use the remove background tool first to get a transparent PNG, then bring it here to square and size it.

What about Discord stickers?

Choose the sticker preset: it makes a 320 × 320 PNG under 512 KB, which is what Discord asks for static server stickers. How many sticker slots a server has depends on its boost level.
