2048: Slide and Merge Number Tiles
Play 2048 with arrow keys, swipes or direction buttons. Merge equal tiles, undo your last move and try a larger 5 × 5 board.
2048: Slide and Merge Number Tiles: Starts with two random tiles and adds a 2 or 4 only after a move changes the board. Each tile merges at most once per move: four 2s become two 4s. One-move undo restores the previous board and score. Best scores are stored separately for the two board sizes. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Use arrow keys while the board is visible, swipe, or use the direction buttons. A new tile appears only after a move changes the board.
Rules and strategy
Keep your largest tile near one corner and build a descending row beside it. Avoid moves that pull it away unless the alternative would block the board. Leave empty cells so new tiles have room to enter.
A merge adds the new tile's value to the score. New tiles are 2 with a 90% chance and 4 with a 10% chance. The 5 × 5 board uses the same rules with more space.
History
Gabriele Cirulli released his browser game on 9 March 2014. His account credits 1024 and an earlier 2048 by Saming as inspirations. Cirulli's account of 2048: https://play2048.co/about. How to use it
- Choose the 4 × 4 or 5 × 5 board.
- Slide all tiles in one direction. Equal tiles combine once per move and add their new value to your score.
- Reach 2048, then keep playing if you want. The game ends when no slide or merge is possible.
Privacy & limitations

Frequently asked questions
Can a new tile merge again in the same move?
No. A tile merges once per move. Sliding 2, 2, 4 produces 4, 4, not 8.
What does undo restore?
It restores the board and score from immediately before your last changing move, including removing that move's spawned tile. You can undo once before making another move.
Does a blocked move add a tile?
No. A new tile appears only when a slide changes the board.
Does reaching 2048 stop the game?
No. The board announces that milestone and you can keep merging. It ends when the grid is full and no horizontal or vertical neighbours match.
