Zakat fitrah is paid for every member of the household, including children, before the Eid prayer. The amount in money is set each year by local zakat agencies, such as BAZNAS in each Indonesian city or province, from the price of rice there.

Rice or money

Paying in rice follows the practice of the Prophet's time, giving staple food; paying in money is accepted by many scholars and agencies because recipients can buy what they need. BAZNAS and provincial agencies publish the money amount before each Ramadan.

For zakat on savings and income, use the zakat calculator; for Imsak and iftar times, the Ramadan timetable.

Who receives it

Zakat fitrah goes first to the poor and needy, so that everyone can celebrate Eid. Mosques and zakat agencies collect it in the last days of Ramadan and distribute it before the Eid prayer; giving it through them makes sure it reaches people in time.

How to use it

  1. Enter the number of people in your household, children included.
  2. Enter the amount per person your local zakat agency has set for this year, if you pay in money.
