Zakat Calculator

Work out zakat on your wealth, 2.5% of savings, gold, investments, and business stock above the nisab, or zakat on monthly income, with today's gold or silver price.

Zakat Calculator: Zakat on wealth (zakat mal) is 2.5% of the wealth you have held for a full lunar year, after deducting debts due now, when it reaches the nisab: the value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Zakat on income, as BAZNAS, Indonesia's national zakat agency, applies it, is 2.5% of income each month when a year's income reaches the value of 85 grams of gold. The calculator uses the gold or silver price you enter, so the nisab follows today's market. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

What counts and what does not

Count cash, bank balances, gold and silver, shares and funds, goods held for sale, and money owed to you that you expect back. Leave out your home, car, furniture, and tools of your trade. Deduct only debts due now, such as this month's instalments, not the whole of a long mortgage.

The zakat year

Zakat on wealth is due once a lunar year, about 354 days. Many people pick a fixed date, often in Ramadan, and count their wealth on it each year; the nisab is checked against the gold or silver price on that day.

How to use it

  1. Choose zakat on wealth or zakat on income, and your currency.
  2. Enter today's price of a gram of gold (or silver), which sets the nisab.
  3. Enter your savings, gold, investments, stock, and money owed to you, less debts due now, and read the zakat.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use the gold or the silver nisab?

Most zakat agencies, BAZNAS among them, use gold. The silver nisab is much lower, so more people owe zakat by it; some scholars prefer it because it benefits more recipients. Follow your local agency or scholar.

Is zakat due on my house and car?

Not on things for your own use, such as your home, car, and furniture; zakat is due on savings, investments, gold and silver, and goods held for sale.

Is jewellery included?

The Hanafi school counts gold and silver jewellery; the other schools generally exempt jewellery worn in normal use. Include it or not according to the school you follow.
