Video Screenshot at Timestamp

Save one exact frame from a video as a PNG, at the second you choose and at the video's own resolution.

Video Screenshot at Timestamp: TOEA seeks the video to the time you give, waits for that frame to be decoded and painted, draws it to a canvas at full or reduced size, and encodes it as a lossless PNG. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Landing on a sharp frame

Video frames are captured with motion blur, so a paused moment in the middle of a movement often looks soft even though the video looked sharp in motion. Try times a few hundredths of a second either side; at 30 fps each frame lasts about 0.033 seconds, at 25 fps 0.04, and at 60 fps about 0.017. Moments when the subject is still, or at the end of a gesture, give the cleanest stills.

Using the frame as a thumbnail

A 1280 × 720 frame from a 16:9 video meets YouTube’s minimum width, although the recommended custom video thumbnail resolution is 3840 × 2160. Use the largest suitable source frame. Uploads must be under 50 MB on desktop or under 2 MB on mobile; use PNG to JPG if you need a smaller file.

Frames from compressed video show compression artefacts in dark and flat areas, and lossless PNG keeps them exactly. A little extra JPG compression rarely makes them look worse.

How to use it

  1. Choose a video file.
  2. Enter the time in seconds, using the preview to find it.
  3. Capture the frame and download the PNG.

Privacy & limitations

The video is read straight from your device and never uploaded. Everything — decoding, resizing, and encoding — happens in this browser tab, so large files are limited by your own memory rather than an upload queue. The PNG is rendered from the decoded picture, so it carries no metadata from the source file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the exact second?

Play the preview, pause where you want, and read the time from the player controls. Decimal values such as 12.48 are accepted.

Why is the frame slightly different from where I paused?

Seeking lands on the nearest frame the decoder can produce, which for heavily compressed video may be a keyframe a fraction of a second earlier than the time you asked for.

Why PNG rather than JPG?

PNG is lossless, so the screenshot is exactly what the decoder produced. Run it through the image compressor afterwards if you need a smaller JPG.

Is the screenshot the full video resolution?

By default, yes. Choose a smaller width if you only need a thumbnail; the height follows the video's aspect ratio.
