Writing the page sequence
The sequence is followed exactly as written, so it can move, repeat, and drop pages in one go. 3, 1, 2 moves page 3 to the front, 1, 1, 2, 3 duplicates the first page, and any page left out is removed. Ranges must run upwards: 1-5 works, while 5-1 is rejected, so a reversed section has to be listed page by page, as in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
The field starts filled with every page in order, which makes it easiest to edit that list rather than type a new one.
Fixing a two-pass duplex scan
Scanning a double-sided stack on a single-sided feeder usually means scanning all the fronts, flipping the stack, and scanning the backs, which come out in reverse. A ten-page document then arrives as fronts 1–5 followed by backs in the order 10, 9, 8, 7, 6. The sequence 1, 10, 2, 9, 3, 8, 4, 7, 5, 6 interleaves them correctly. If the backs also came out upside down, turn them afterwards with rotate PDF.
