Profile Picture Maker

Make a profile picture in the browser: frame the face in a circle, replace the background with a colour or a gradient, add a ring, and save a square PNG or JPG at the size you need.

Profile Picture Maker: TOEA finds the largest face with a face detector and frames the head in the middle of a square, separates the person from the background with a segmentation model when you choose a new background, paints a solid colour or two-colour gradient behind them, draws the ring, and encodes a square image at the chosen size, all in your browser. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Why a square file and a round preview

Most sites store the picture as a square and crop the corners away when they show it, so anything near the corners of the square disappears. Keep the face and any text well inside the circle; the round previews at 96 and 40 pixels show how it reads in a comment or chat list, where a busy background or a small face turns into a blur.

Upload the square rather than the transparent-corner circle unless a site asks for the circle: some sites add their own frame or show the image square in places, and transparent corners may then show as black or white. The circle PNG is for places where you position the picture yourself, such as slides, documents, and email signatures.

Framing, backgrounds, and size

A head filling about half the circle's height reads well at small sizes; zoom in rather than out when unsure. A plain colour or a soft gradient behind the head is easier to recognise at 40 pixels than a detailed scene, and a ring in one strong colour helps the picture stand out beside others.

Choose a size at least as large as the site shows and preferably double it for high-density screens; a larger square is scaled down cleanly, a small one blurs when enlarged. For a pet or an object, cut it out first with the background remover and open the transparent PNG here.

How to use it

  1. Choose a photo; the face is found and framed automatically.
  2. Adjust zoom and position, choose a background and an optional ring, and check the circular preview.
  3. Pick a size and format and save.

Privacy & limitations

The photo never leaves your device. Framing and a new background download the vision runtime and two small models from public CDNs, about 12 MB in all, once; after that everything runs locally.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the file square when the preview is round?

Nearly every site stores a square picture and crops it to a circle when it shows it. Uploading a square keeps you in control of the crop; the circular preview shows what people will see. Choose the transparent-corners PNG if you want the circle itself as the file.

Which size should I pick?

Larger is safer: sites scale a big square down cleanly but blur a small one scaled up. 400 × 400 is the size LinkedIn and X have long suggested, and 800 × 800 or 1024 × 1024 stays sharp on high-density screens. Check the site's help page if it states a maximum file size.

The new background does not work on my dog.

The background replacement uses a people model and only recognises people. For a pet or an object, cut it out with the Background Remover's click to select, save the transparent PNG, and open that PNG here: transparent areas are filled with the background you choose.

Why do the edges of the hair look soft?

The person model works on a small version of the picture, so fine hair is smoothed. On a busy background with a similar colour to the hair, some of the background may remain. A photo taken against a plain wall gives the cleanest result.
