Graphics and lossy WebP
Lossy WebP always stores color at half the resolution of brightness, a scheme called 4:2:0 chroma subsampling. On photographs nobody notices, but on screenshots, charts, and logos it softens colored text and leaves faint fringes where red or blue meets white. For those images keep the quality slider at 90 or higher and compare the preview closely, or keep the PNG if the saving turns out to be small.
Size limits and transparency
A WebP image can be at most 16,383 pixels on each side, so a very long full-page screenshot may be too tall to store as WebP; split it into parts with crop image first. Transparency survives the conversion, and a logo or cut-out on a transparent background is usually much smaller as WebP than as PNG. If the site or app that receives the file only takes PNG, WebP to PNG turns it back without further loss.
