Love Calculator: Test Your Love Percentage by Name
Enter two names to play the schoolyard LOVES game. See each row of letter counts fold into a percentage, swap names, save a share card or send a first-name invite.
Love Calculator: Test Your Love Percentage by Name: Plays the schoolyard LOVES letter-counting game. It counts L, O, V, E and S across both names, then repeatedly adds adjacent pairs. Sums of 10 or more are reduced by adding their digits until one digit remains, so 12 becomes 3. The final two digits form a percentage, with 00 read as 0%. Every row is visible, including zero counts. Unlike the TRUE LOVE count, this method folds five counts into two digits. The percentage is a game result, not a measurement of feelings or a relationship. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Two names, five letters, a little fun
Let the letters play matchmaker
Try the schoolyard LOVES game and see every step behind your love percentage.
A folk game with a visible method
Spaces and punctuation are ignored, letters are lowercased, and accents are removed, so é counts as e. The first row keeps the actual letter counts, even above nine. Fold until two digits remain and read them as a percentage; 00 means 0%.
Folk versions do not guarantee the same result when names are swapped. In this version, counting the combined letters makes both orders identical. Swap names to check it yourself.
Names are processed only in this page and are not stored or sent for calculation. Invite links and saved cards reveal only the names you choose to share.
LOVES folk game rules
LOVES is a schoolyard counting game with several folk variants. This page uses the five-letter adjacent-sum variant described here, rather than the TRUE LOVE two-word count. The rule is a game convention, not a scientific relationship formula. Read about the other games in Name Compatibility.
Keep the actual L, O, V, E and S counts in the first row, even when a count exceeds nine. Add each adjacent pair; repeatedly sum the digits of a result of 10 or more until a single digit remains. For example, 6 plus 6 is 12, which becomes 3. Continue until two digits remain. A leading zero is permitted and 00 means 0%.
Worked example and spelling
Romeo and Juliet contain L = 1, O = 2, V = 0, E = 2 and S = 0. The full pyramid is 1 2 0 2 0 → 3 2 2 2 → 5 4 4 → 9 8, giving 98%. Juliet and Romeo have the same combined counts and the same pyramid. This result belongs to the game alone.
Names are lowercased, combining accents are removed, and spaces and punctuation are ignored. Only Latin-script letters are accepted for this game; type a romanised spelling for another script. No letters are cancelled. The written explanations and share-card decoration are original, and the game uses no external dataset or artwork.

Privacy & limitations
Names are processed in your browser and are not stored or sent for calculation. An invite link contains both first names, so sharing or opening it reveals them. Saved cards show first names by default; turn off Show first names on the card to hide them completely.

Frequently asked questions
How does the LOVES love calculator work?
Remove accents, spaces and punctuation, lowercase the names, and count L, O, V, E and S across both names. Add adjacent counts to make the next row. If a sum is 10 or more, add its digits until one remains: 12 becomes 3. Stop with two digits and read them as a percentage. Romeo and Juliet give 1 2 0 2 0, then 3 2 2 2, then 5 4 4, then 9 8: 98%.
Why can swapping names change a love percentage?
Folk versions can use different rules, so order independence is not guaranteed across love calculators. This version counts letters across both names together, making the result identical in either order. The Swap names button lets you check. Changing the spelling or using full names can change the result.
Is the love calculator accurate?
No. This is a letter-counting party game. A percentage cannot measure affection, compatibility or the future of a relationship. Enjoy the game without treating it as advice about another person.
Can I use non-Latin names?
Use a romanised spelling containing Latin letters. Accents are stripped, so é becomes e. Names containing letters from another script show a message asking for a romanised spelling. Different spellings can produce different results because only the letters are counted.
What if neither name contains a LOVES letter?
All five counts are zero, and every row stays zero. The final 00 is displayed as 0%. That only describes which letters appear in the names and says nothing about the people.
Are the names private?
Calculation happens only in your browser; names are not sent or saved. Invites put both first names in a link, so recipients and anyone opening it can see them. Cards show first names by default, and the names can be hidden before saving. Questions and names are never included in tool analytics.
