Printable Graph Paper

Print graph paper on A4 or Letter: square grids from 2 mm to 1 cm or in fractions of an inch, dot grids, isometric triangles, and hexagons, as a PDF that prints to exact size.

Printable Graph Paper: The page draws the grid in millimetres and writes it into the PDF as lines, not a picture, so a 5 mm square measures 5 mm on paper when printed at actual size. The grid is fitted to whole squares and centred inside a 10 mm margin, which every printer can reach. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Print at 100% (actual size), not fit to page, for the spacing to measure exactly.

Printing to exact size

The PDF holds the grid as lines measured in millimetres, so its spacing is exact, but a printer only keeps it if nothing rescales the page. In the print dialog choose Actual size, 100%, or No scaling; Fit to page, the default in many viewers, shrinks everything by a few percent. To check, measure ten squares with a ruler: on 5 mm paper they span 50 mm.

The grid stops 10 mm from each edge, inside the area every home printer can print, and is centred so the margins match on both sides. Letter paper is offered with inch spacings and A4 with millimetres, but either size takes either spacing.

Choosing a grid

Square grids suit maths, graphs, and floor plans; heavier lines every 5 or 10 squares make units easy to count, and four per inch matches quarter-inch engineering paper. Dot grids keep writing and sketches aligned while staying in the background. Isometric paper, with lines at 30 degrees, is for drawing three-dimensional objects; hexagon paper is for game maps and chemistry diagrams.

For ruled writing paper, handwriting lines, or character practice squares, use lined paper; for printable arithmetic practice, the math worksheet generator.

How to use it

  1. Choose a square grid, dots, isometric, or hexagons, and the spacing.
  2. Pick the paper size, line colour, and heavier lines every 4, 5, or 10 squares if you want them.
  3. Download the PDF or print, at 100% scale.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the squares not measure exactly 5 mm?

The printer scaled the page. In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100% instead of Fit to page; most printers otherwise shrink the page slightly to fit their margins.

Which grid is best for maths?

5 mm squares, or quarter-inch squares on Letter paper, suit most school maths and graphs; heavier lines every 5 or 10 squares make it easier to count units when plotting.

What is isometric paper for?

Its lines run vertically and at 30 degrees either side of horizontal, forming equilateral triangles, so cubes and other 3D shapes can be sketched with their edges along the lines, as in technical drawing and game maps.

What is dot paper for?

Dot grids guide lettering, sketches, and bullet journals while staying almost invisible under the writing. Hexagon paper is used for board-game maps and for drawing molecules in chemistry.
