DOCX Image Extractor: Private Browser Tool

Extract original pictures stored in a local DOCX, with thumbnails, filenames, byte sizes and formats. Download one image or all images as a ZIP without uploading.

DOCX Image Extractor: Private Browser Tool: Save the original pictures from an emailed document without taking screenshots. Each stored media file appears once, including pictures reused in the document or no longer shown in the text. Raster formats supported by the browser get thumbnails and pixel dimensions. Vector or unsupported formats remain downloadable with their original bytes. Charts and drawing shapes are not rendered as images. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Choose a DOCX file

Up to 50 MB · the file never leaves your device

Lists every file stored in the document's media folder, once per original file, including pictures used more than once or no longer shown in the text. Original bytes and names are preserved. Vector and unsupported formats can be downloaded even when there is no thumbnail. External pictures are never fetched; charts and drawing shapes are not extracted as images.

Document structure

ECMA-376 (https://ecma-international.org/publications-and-standards/standards/ecma-376/) defines the document structure and packaging used by DOCX files. Conversion keeps readable structure rather than the printed page layout.

Original files and previews

A document can contain compressed raster images and vector artwork. The PNG specification (https://www.w3.org/TR/png/) describes a lossless raster format. This extractor preserves original image bytes; the thumbnail is only a browser preview.

Scope

Stored pictures are included even when they occur outside the main text. Charts, drawing shapes and external linked images are not rasterised. The ZIP keeps the original names and folder structure of stored media. No external assets or sample documents are loaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a DOCX file.
  2. Inspect thumbnails, original names, sizes and formats.
  3. Download one image or all images as a ZIP.

Privacy & limitations

Frequently asked questions

Are the images recompressed?

No. The files are downloaded exactly as stored in the DOCX. Their resolution may already have been reduced before the document was saved.

Why is there no thumbnail for some files?

SVG, EMF, WMF and other unsupported formats are kept for download but are not displayed here. This prevents active vector content from entering the preview.

Why do I see pictures that are not on a page?

A DOCX can retain media that is unused or reused. The extractor lists stored media, including pictures in headers and footers, rather than taking one screenshot per placement. External linked pictures are not downloaded.
