EPUB Converter: Text, Markdown and HTML: Turn an EPUB into plain text, Markdown or a single HTML file with its images, in reading order with the chapter headings kept. Or go the other way: paste or load text or Markdown, add a title, author, language and cover, and get a standard EPUB 3 e-book with a table of contents, split into chapters at your headings. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

EPUB 3.3

The W3C EPUB 3.3 Recommendation defines the metadata, navigation, chapter documents and container used by a book. https://www.w3.org/TR/epub-33/

Reading compatibility

The EPUB Reading Systems 3.3 specification provides the reading-system requirements. A converted book may look different between readers, especially when the original used complex page layouts. https://www.w3.org/TR/epub-rs-33/

How to use it

Frequently asked questions

How are chapters chosen?

Markdown splits at # and ## headings outside fenced code. Plain text splits at Chapter N lines or two consecutive blank lines. The chapter list is shown before you download.

What happens to images?

Images in an EPUB become embedded pictures in single-file HTML, or image files alongside Markdown and ZIP exports. Single-file HTML is limited to 50 MB. When creating a book, you can add a PNG or JPEG cover; Markdown image references become their alt text.

Can I convert DRM-protected books?

No. Books with encrypted content are rejected. Recognised font obfuscation does not block text extraction, but those fonts are not included in the output.

What details does a new book need?

Enter a title, author and language, then add text. An optional cover must be PNG or JPEG and no larger than 10 MB. Raw HTML in Markdown is displayed as text.
