Video Compressor
Shrink a video in your browser with quality and resolution controls, and see exactly how much smaller it got.
Video Compressor: Lower an MP4's resolution by choosing a smaller height in Resolution, then choose a quality preset to reduce the bitrate. TOEA keeps the aspect ratio and sound, and re-encodes to MP4 where your browser supports it or WebM otherwise. For a different frame shape, use Resize Video to crop or add bars. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Lower an MP4 resolution
Load the MP4 and choose a smaller height in Resolution. The available lower presets are 1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p; options larger than or equal to the source height are hidden. Width follows the source aspect ratio, so 1920 × 1080 becomes 1280 × 720 at 720p.
Changing resolution reduces the number of pixels. The quality preset separately controls how much data is spent on those pixels. Try a smaller height and Balanced first, then compare the result with the original for small text and moving details.
Resolution, frame shape and output
Use Resize Video at /resize-video when the goal is a different frame shape, such as a portrait or square video. It crops the edges or adds bars; the compressor's Resolution control keeps the source aspect ratio.
The compressor re-encodes the picture and keeps sound, downloading MP4 if the browser can record it or WebM otherwise. Lower resolution can help reduce file size, but an already compressed source may still produce a larger result. Keep the original and check the reported size after encoding.
How to use it
- Choose a video file.
- Pick a quality preset and, if you want, a smaller resolution.
- Compress and download the result.
Privacy & limitations
The video is read straight from your device and never uploaded. Everything — decoding, resizing, and encoding — happens in this browser tab, so large files are limited by your own memory rather than an upload queue. Encoding runs at playback speed because the browser records the video as it plays, so a two-minute clip takes about two minutes and the tab must stay in front. Re-encoding is lossy, so compressing an already-compressed video loses some quality.

Frequently asked questions
How do I lower the resolution of an MP4?
Choose the file, then select a smaller height in Resolution. The menu offers 1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p when they are below the source height. Width follows the original aspect ratio: a 1920 × 1080 clip becomes 1280 × 720 at 720p. Use Resize Video if you also need to change the frame shape by cropping or adding bars.
Does lower resolution always mean a smaller file?
It usually helps, but the quality preset and the source's existing bitrate also matter. Try a lower resolution with Balanced or Small and compare the reported file sizes. Re-encoding loses some detail, so keep the original.
Will the result still be MP4?
Only when your browser can record MP4. Otherwise it downloads WebM, even if the input was MP4. The file extension identifies the output.
