Add Days to Date

Move a calendar date forward by a whole number of days.

Add Days to Date: Find the date after a specified number of calendar days, whether the interval crosses a weekend, February or the end of the year. The starting date is the anchor at day zero. All valid dates count equally, so the answer is a future calendar date rather than a working-day deadline. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

ASSUMPTIONS / READ BEFORE USING
  1. Calendar arithmetic is used; daylight-saving transitions do not change the result.
  2. Days must be a non-negative whole number.

Forward day formula through leap February

Let S be the starting date represented by a consecutive day number, and N the whole day count. Result R = S + N. Converting R back into year, month and day automatically carries through the different month lengths. N is an offset, not the size of a list that includes both S and R.

Enter S = 2024-02-28 and N = 2. The first step reaches 29 February, and the second reaches 1 March. The widget returns 2024-03-01 and 2 days added. An inclusive list of the dates touched has three entries, but the offset remains two because it measures the changes between them.

Valid dates and fixed calendar steps

The leap-year rule at the US Naval Observatory (https://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/leap_years) determines whether the extra February date exists. The input must be valid; the tool does not silently repair an impossible starting date.

Use a day count for a requirement expressed as a fixed number of calendar days. If it is expressed as one month, do not substitute an assumed thirty-day count: the corresponding month can end earlier or later. The returned date also does not encode a deadline hour. Record that hour and its location separately when a booking or submission closes at a particular instant.

How to use it

  1. Set the date from which the forward count begins.
  2. Enter a non-negative whole number of calendar days to add.
  3. Calculate the future date and check any separate deadline or holiday requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Is the starting date day zero or day one?

It is day zero for the offset. Adding one reaches the following date; adding zero leaves the date unchanged. If instructions call the starting date day one, convert that inclusive convention before entering an offset.

Will the calculation skip Saturday, Sunday or public holidays?

No. This addition walks through every calendar date. For an offset that ignores Saturdays and Sundays, use add business days and separately consider any relevant holiday closures.

Will adding a day during a clock change move the result differently?

The result advances by a calendar date regardless of daylight saving. There is no clock time to preserve, so the tool does not claim that one local date change always represents twenty-four elapsed hours.
