WHOIS Lookup: Domain, IP and ASN Registration via RDAP

Read registration details for a domain, internationalised domain, IPv4 or IPv6 address, CIDR block, or ASN using public RDAP services.

WHOIS Lookup: Domain, IP and ASN Registration via RDAP: Enter a domain name, IP address or AS number to see who it is registered with: the registrar, the important dates and days until expiry, the status codes explained in plain English, the name servers and DNSSEC, or for an IP address the network, owner and abuse contact. The lookup uses RDAP, the modern successor to WHOIS, and goes straight from your browser to the official registry. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

WHOIS / RDAP lookupLive registry data

Your query goes directly from your browser to the registry's RDAP server; TOEA doesn't see it.

IANA supplies the server directory. If it cannot be loaded, rdap.org receives your query and redirects it to a registry. Registry terms and rate limits apply.

RDAP requests and responses

RFC 9082 defines domain, IP and autonomous system queries: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9082.html . RFC 9083 defines the response objects, events, entities and jCard contact format: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9083.html . Missing data does not imply that a registration is available.

Bootstrap and status meanings

IANA bootstrap data: https://data.iana.org/rdap/dns.json , https://data.iana.org/rdap/ipv4.json , https://data.iana.org/rdap/ipv6.json and https://data.iana.org/rdap/asn.json . RFC 8056 maps EPP statuses to RDAP: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc8056.html . Descriptions here are plain-English paraphrases.

Service access

Registry services impose their own terms and rate limits; see the notices in each response. Fallback service information: https://about.rdap.org/ . The client does not automatically retry rate-limited requests.

How to use it

  1. Enter a domain, IP address, CIDR block or ASN such as AS15169.
  2. Run the lookup to contact the registry from your browser.
  3. Read dates, status codes and contacts, then expand or copy the raw JSON.

Privacy & limitations

Frequently asked questions

Is this traditional WHOIS?

No. RDAP is an HTTPS protocol for structured registration data. Browsers cannot query WHOIS over port 43. A TLD absent from the IANA RDAP bootstrap is reported as unsupported.

Why are contacts hidden?

Registries may redact personal data. Missing fields are marked as not supplied; explicit privacy redactions are labelled redacted for privacy. This tool does not bypass those restrictions.

What does a failed lookup mean?

A 404 means no record was found, 429 means rate limiting, and a network failure may indicate server downtime or CORS restrictions. The rdap.org fallback can also return 404 when no service exists.

Who receives the query?

Normally the registry chosen from IANA bootstrap data. If the bootstrap cannot load, rdap.org receives the query and redirects it to a registry. Registry terms and rate limits apply.
