Public address resolverSafe public URL check

Reports only public IPv4 and IPv6 destinations returned for the hostname.

What an address tells you

A site behind a CDN such as Cloudflare or Fastly resolves to the CDN's addresses, which are shared by many unrelated sites and often the same worldwide, since the network routes each visitor to a nearby server. Shared hosting likewise serves many sites from one IP. An IP address is therefore rarely a reliable way to identify a site's owner or to block a single site. Several addresses for one name usually mean load balancing; any of them should serve the site.

Checking a server move

After pointing a domain at a new host, compare the address here with the one the host gave you. If they match but your browser still reaches the old server, your computer is using a cached answer and will catch up when the record's time-to-live runs out; the DNS lookup shows the TTL.

To test the new server before switching DNS, map the domain to its address in your computer's hosts file, then remove the line once DNS has been changed.

How to use it

  1. Enter a website URL or hostname.
  2. Choose Resolve address.
  3. Review every public address returned by the resolver.

Privacy & limitations

The hostname is resolved through TOEA’s API and is not stored. CDN routing, geography, caches, and DNS rotation can produce different answers elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Why are several addresses shown?

Load balancing and CDNs commonly publish multiple IPv4 or IPv6 destinations.

Is this the origin server IP?

Not necessarily. Proxied sites normally resolve to a CDN or reverse proxy rather than the private origin.
