Unzip Online

Open a zip file in your browser, see what is inside, preview text and images, and save the files you need.

Unzip Online: TOEA reads the archive's directory in your browser, lists every file with its size and date, and inflates a file only when you view or download it, using the browser's own decompression. Runs 100% locally in your browser with zero server file uploads.

Garbled file names

Zip files record whether their names are in UTF-8. Archives made by older Windows tools often do not set that flag and store names in the computer's local code page, which is ambiguous. Such names are read here as Western European text, so Cyrillic, Chinese, or Japanese names can appear as accented nonsense. Only the names are affected; the files inside download intact and can be renamed afterwards.

Archives this viewer cannot open

Most zip files use Deflate compression, which is read here, or store files uncompressed. Some archivers offer other methods, such as LZMA, BZip2, or Deflate64 in 7-Zip's settings, and entries packed that way show in the list but cannot be extracted. A .7z or .rar file is a different format altogether, even when renamed to .zip. Folders called __MACOSX and files named .DS_Store come from archives made on a Mac and can be ignored.

How to use it

  1. Choose a .zip file.
  2. Browse or filter the list of files inside.
  3. View a file, or download the ones you need.

Privacy & limitations

The archive is read from your device and never uploaded. It has to fit in memory, so the limit is 300 MB.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extract everything at once?

Not to a folder: a web page cannot write files to your disk without asking about each one. Download the files you need individually; for a whole archive, your system's built-in unzip is quicker.

A file says it is password-protected.

Encrypted zip entries cannot be opened here. The list still shows their names and sizes.

It says Zip64 is not supported.

Zip64 is the format for archives over 4 GB, though some tools write it for every archive. This viewer reads the ordinary format only.

Which files can be previewed?

Text-like files under 2 MB, such as .txt, .csv, .json, .md, and code, and common image formats. Anything else can be downloaded.
